October is typically the month we take our biggest and best vacation of the year and 2025 proved to be no different. This time around was particularly special for a couple of reasons: we had two very distinct legs to our trip and more importantly than that, we got to see my Aunt whom we hadn’t seen in a couple years.
This year we set out west and headed first to Seattle, Washington before leaving the mainland and flying all the way to Honolulu, Hawaii, but more on that tropical treat in future installments. It was our first time in the Seattle area, but certainly won’t be our last. So come along with us as I showcase our Wondrous Weekend in Washington!
My Aunt Debbie and her new husband, David, off to the left with Melissa and I on the right. This BEAUTIFUL mural was downtown Monroe, Washington. There was NO WAY we were driving past it without getting out for a photo! You all know how much I LOVE my Coca-Cola!
The No King’s Protest coincided with our trip downtown Seattle, which honestly, I was thrilled for. Since I couldn’t be attending a protest back home, it was great to momentarily be a part of one whilst away. You all know how much I absolutely loathe and detest this evil Trump Regime we’re living under, so any chance I get to fight fascism, you can count me in! They had over 90,000 people out there that day in Seattle, so we were all thankful to be amongst them.
Our first stop of the day was the Museum of Pop Culture, or MOPOP. You all already know how much we love pop culture, so this was definitely a must-do for us and let me tell you what, it didn’t disappoint! Pop Culture changes always and so does this museum, it felt that most their exhibits change on the regular, so if you went annually, you’d have an alternate experience each and every single time. Loved that. Here’s Nancy and Melissa with a tornado of guitars that was part of their famous guitar gallery.
They had a horror movie exhibit and I LOVED it! It showcased all kinds of horror lore in pop culture and I thought it was just great! Here I am in a coffin because of all the legendary horror beasts, vampires are by far my favorite.
Following MOPOP, we went to Chihuly Garden and Glass, which was an indoor/outdoor museum that showcased many of the famous works by world renowned artist, Dale Chihuly. It was wonderful seeing how he was inspired to create so many of these intricate and interesting displays of glasswork. The variety of colors he pulled from and such was quite amazing. Definitely an amazing place.
…that featured plenty of amazing views.
The juxtaposition of color between the greenery of the botanicals versus the orange and red hues of the glass really caught my eye here. Loved it.
Nancy, me, Debbie, and David atop the Space Needle. Melissa took this photo from the safety of the center. 500 feet in the air, the Space Needle features a revolving platform that wouldn’t be so bad on its own, but IT HAS A GLASS FLOOR! It took all the strength I had to step across the glass floor to the outer rim that wasn’t glass. I cannot even tell you all how terrified I was of that glass floor, but I can assure you, Melissa was even more scared because she never once stepped on it.
This was my look of horror. The horror in pop culture exhibit had nothing on the fear factor induced by these glass floors! I had to keep telling myself, ‘12,500 people come up here each day, you’ll be fine.’ It helped, but only just enough to zip across it.
Don’t know any of these people, but included the shot so you could see the glass flooring. We were originally hoping we could get dining reservations at the restaurant inside the Space Needle, but upon discovering it sat on the rotating glass floor I was never so happy in my life to miss out on something. I would NEVER of been able to enjoy my meal. I would’ve been hovering over the table like a lunatic.
There’s an even higher observation deck at 540 feet, this is me and Melissa out on it. Honestly, it was SO MUCH BETTER than the one below. No glass floors to have to brave. This was totally fine for us.
The following day Debbie, Melissa, Nancy, and I went to Whidbey Island, which couldn’t have been any cuter if it tried. It was quite large honestly and despite spending the entire day there, we didn’t even manage to see it all. Whidbey Island was full of quaint hamlets that nestled up against the water and breathtaking tree-lined treks. It was a perfect day. This was taken at a beachfront park we stumbled upon.
They had telephone booths all over the island! I think we saw three, which is three more than I’ve seen in forever!
This little town was called, Langley and we just loved it. They had the most vibrant community atmosphere. Would definitely love to return one day. Peep Melissa posing for the photo as Nancy and Debbie peep the sailboats in the water.
A sailboat in the water.
My Aunt Debbie and I. We’ve always been super close and I’m so thankful that we’ve been able to maintain that proximity despite technically being further away (speaking geographically obviously) than ever before.
Back on the mainland and near the ferry there was this enchanting lighthouse that I couldn’t wait to visit. I love lighthouses and this one, while not as tall as many, was full of charm. The grounds around it were well-manicured and full of great photo opportunities!
Us and the lighthouse.
Loved the sunset and the pier.
Taken from Debbie’s yard. Their sunsets up there were just captivating. I love the sunsets we get here in Cutesville, but so much of that is probably secretly enhanced by the pollution, this just felt incredibly natural and absolutely serene. Loved everything about it.
Well, there you have it, our Wondrous Weekend in Washington! It was just phenomenal getting to see my Aunt Debbie again after two and a half years! Last time I saw her we were both out in Colorado for Alyssa’s Graduation from University! Meeting her new husband, David was also wonderful. He’s a great guy who compliments Debbie very well. Couldn’t be happier for the two of them and cannot even wait to one day get back out there and visit them again and see even more of what Seattle has to offer!
