Hawaii Day Four: Waikiki Beach & Friendship Outreach

ALOHA! Today started and ended in sheer insanity, HOWEVER, everything that transpired in between was pure paradise. The pictures you’re about to view are from the in between, the stories you’ll read following them will be from our interesting-at-best morning and night.

This is land of enchantment was where we stumbled upon for breakfast.
The breakfast was such a blessing. I felt so posh eating at The Veranda in the Westin Moana Windsurfer.
Lord have mercy this was delicious.
We all know I LOVE Macy’s, but this was – without doubt – THE BEST Macy’s I have EVER been in! It was immaculate inside and the staff we interacted with – of which there were several – were all phenomenal. I wish every Macy’s was like this.

This statue honors Japanese Americans contributions to World War II.
Honolulu is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen in the United States. I love it so much.
I became really obsessed today with the mountain ranges beyond the skyline.
Our hotel.
Melissa and I had the privilege of meeting up with my former coworker from my Macy’s Escondido days, Cynthia. It was truly wonderful to reconnect after five years apart. She and her husband Frank, who joined us also, but couldn’t be in the picture because he was taking it, are an absolute delight and it truly made my heart so unbelievably happy to spend the afternoon with them both. I’m so thankful we were able to make this happen.
The restaurant Frank and Cynthia took us to was at the shipyards and I loved it! What a treat!
Nico’s was once on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives! How great for them!
Super random statue of a pumpkin at the Ala Moana mall and given my affinity for all things Halloween, I obviously had to take its picture.
This mall was real cute and I loved it.
Thank you, Cynthia, for an absolutely amazing afternoon! She moved back to Honolulu shortly after I left Macy’s Escondido and I’m so grateful that we were able to make this meetup happen. It was an incomparable highlight of what has been an outstanding vacation!
Melissa, Kamber, Charlie, and Kaell. You’ll notice the kids are picture pros like me and Melissa. We have three more days to fix this!
Some super nice guy let Maerick fish with his pole, which made Maerick’s whole night!
This photo and the last one were taken within seconds of each other. It looks so much darker in the previous shot.
Charles, Kaell, Melissa, Kamber, and me!
We got Thai for dinner. I was going to take more food photos, but well… you’ll read the story.

So this morning, Melissa and I didn’t get up in enough time to join Kamber, Charles, and the kids on their 2.2 mile jaunt to this awesome bakery for breakfast. Instead we opted to return to the very same street we have finished each and every night of this trip on, Kalakaua Avenue, and just find something there. While on our way to a place we remembered seeing called, “Eggs and Things,” we found ourselves in the vocal line of fire of a disgruntled and crazy looking man hurling verbal insults at everyone on the opposite side of the street as him, which just so happened to include us.

He was screaming some of the most vulgar and insane things I’d ever heard come out of someone’s mouth. I didn’t dare look over in his direction a second time in fear it might provoke further insanity from this clearly unstable individual. Then as we were continuing down the sidewalk I noticed a group of people up against a building and a man crouched down on the ground. I looked over and there was an insane amount of blood surrounding the man and his hand and arm were bleeding like crazy. For those who don’t know, I. Hate. Blood. I hate it so, so, so much. As soon as I saw what I just described my body temperature spiked and I had to rapidly remove my mask from my face to get as much airflow as possible. I thought I was going to tumble over and faint right there amidst all the chaos. My heart was racing so fast that I had to take several emergency breaths to bring me back down from my unfortunate high. It was unlike anything we had experienced thus far on this trip and prayerfully will remain unique from anything else we may.

Then this evening we went to this cute lil’ Thai restaurant and after much confusion, Kamber, Melissa, and I got seated. As our food was being brought to our table, a couple of twenty-something white girls came in to pick up their carryout order. Well, one of them was in a mood similar to the crazy man from the opposite side of the sidewalk this morning, and she was airing ALL her dirty laundry.

In so many words she feels like her man doesn’t allow her to be independent and even though they had sex with him this morning, she doesn’t want to spend the entire day with him and if the friend that was standing there next to her doesn’t get this, then she isn’t her true friend and all this other crass insanity. She was throwing out so many vulgar words and descriptive phrases that the producers of The Jerry Springer Show would’ve been blushing! The awkwardness was heightened by the fact that Melissa, Kamber, and I were the ONLY THREE PEOPLE in the restaurant at the time that weren’t on the payroll! It was such an insane moment that unfortunately for us, lasted much, MUCH LONGER than the equally insane one we had this morning. I was beginning to think there was an equal chance of the three of us finishing our meals before these two girls got their to-go order. We heard everything about this girl, but her name, which was a real shame because I kept listening for it because you can bet I was gonna look her crazy ass up on Instagram the second I got ahold of that information. Hearing all these wild stories about her friends really made me want to be able to put a face to all their names. They ended up with their food before we finished ours and left, but she had frazzled the poor staff up so much that when it came time to pay our bill, they neglected to bring me the receipts to sign after running my card and that just created even further confusion to try and get squared away. The full moon isn’t until March 28, but if I didn’t already know that information, I would’ve bet everything on it being tonight.

Well, as always, THANK YOU so much for viewing my blog! I do hope you’ve been enjoying these photos and lil’ stories from our phenomenal Hawaiian vacation! PLEASE feel free to leave me a comment below because you already know I LOVE nothing more than reading and responding to them! I’ll be back tomorrow with another all new blog of photos, this time they should be quite tropical as we’re finally stepping outside the Honolulu city limits to go on a lil’ hike! I can’t wait to see what the jungle has in store for us, but until then, I hope you have THE BEST day ever!
