New York City Day Four: Freer Than A Free Throw!

Welcome back to my New York City adventure! This was easily my most lowkey day of the trip – and thank goodness for that! After the 13 plus miles I walked the day before, I was in need of something light and this day delivered! Now, that isn’t to say it was boring, it just didn’t have us walking a quarter of the island of Manhattan, in fact, we didn’t spend all day in Manhattan at all. We took the subway to Brooklyn for a Brooklyn Nets NBA game! Can’t wait to share all about that, so let’s get to it shall we?

Here’s that awesome birds nest sculpture I showed in yesterday’s blog as well. I just really enjoyed it. What a marvel.
It makes me sad they had to close it because people were committing suicide from it. What a tragedy for everyone involved.
I told Cole we could NOT go anywhere they served rice. I was all riced out and wanted a burger and fries, so he takes me to this restaurant that was totally fine all things considered, but the burger had all this whack stuff on it and by the time I would’ve omitted everything I didn’t want, it would’ve just been buns and beef, so I got this cute looking Caesar Salad. A little rice goes a long way for me and every single place we went up to this point was heavy-handed on the rice and I was sick of it.
I had to go poop at the restaurant and Elton John was in the restroom! You all know how much I love Elton! This was such a treat!
“I’m your Private Dancer, a dancer for money, I’ll do what you want me to do.” – Tina Turner
Lower Manhattan from the subway to Brooklyn.
The Barclays Center where we were about to go see the Brooklyn Nets face-off against the Denver Nuggets. The irony of these two teams playing one another is that my next trip is actually to Denver in May, so I just thought that was wild.
I was so excited to be here because they held the MTV Video Music Awards here a few years back.
I’d never been to a NBA game before this and I have to say, I LOVED IT! Honestly, maybe one of my favorite sporting event experiences. I loved all that they had going on. There’s some solid jams playing throughout, plenty of random entertainment, and basketball is super fast paced, not boring like baseball, so I really just thought it was great. HEY ST. LOUIS! Let’s get an expansion team!
The “D” in Defense looked just like the lettering for the subway and I just thought that was the cutest. What an adorable tie-in.
I’m lowkey a lil’ pissed I failed to capture ANY pictures of myself at this game! What the Hell was I doing!?! Jay-Z owns this team and I can’t imagine I let myself not be photographed amongst the team Mr. BeyoncĂ© owns! Such a terrible oversight.
Before the game started I told Cole Denver was going to win. I could just feel it and turns out my prediction was correct, Denver won.
That thin black building in the center was just super captivating for me. It doesn’t look it here, but it was the tallest building we saw in Brooklyn and it looked as modern as it did historical. I just loved it in all its gothic glory.
The Washington Square Arch!
Beneath the Washington Square Arch.
Love me a good lamp post and this park had several. It was super cute here.
Wishing the weather was warmed and this fountain was full. I definitely want to go back to New York City in the summertime!
The Washington Square Arch commemorates the centennial of George Washington’s 1789 inauguration as the first President of the United States.
The Giuseppe Garibaldi statue recognizes this leader of the Italian unification. I don’t know who he was, but I love a good statue anytime.
Again, I’m sure this place would really be something in the summer time with all those leaf-filled trees and those blue skies and sunshine. Bring me back in three months!
Love these city parks. There’s just something about the accent of the cityscape for me that really enhances the overall ambiance.
You know I was tired when I hardly had any photos of myself taken all day. Seriously, this is like one of two!
We went to a NIKE store and I had to take this because I will forever love this slogan. So motivational.
I was so damn hungry that I didn’t have it in me to return to Macy’s Herald Square, but do I wish I would have. I just love Macy’s. They have all the brands I care about and I get excellent rewards with my Macy’s Credit Card. Next time I go to NYC, I’m setting half a day aside to come shop here. I’m not fucking this shit up again.
Cole and I went and had dinner at Ai Fiori. I was opposed to sitting at the bar prior to our arrival as I usually feel that’s crass and not something I’m into doing as I don’t really drink, but he assured me the bartender was terrific, so I didn’t fight this one and he was right, Alex, was lovely. She was a pussyhat wearing Democrat and because of that, she and I got along great!
I said I only had two photos taken OF me, not selfies, so this one and the next one don’t really count, but this bar mirror did give me a picture I really enjoy.
The restroom was posh. My hands were so dry that day and when I saw there was lotion in the restroom I looked up and thanked God for this blessed miracle. He knew just what I needed.
Obviously I got the Four Course Prix Fixe, I mean, why wouldn’t I? This restaurant had an executive chef that Melissa had heard of, so clearly it’s going to be the best and I’m all about the best.
I started with the Vullutata (lobster soup) and let me tell you what, it was AMAZING! Possibly my favorite thing I ate on this entire trip since I wasn’t allowed to go to a McDonald’s. It was so creamy and the lobster was surprisingly abundant, nearly every spoonful had some and I was lovin’ it!
This Polipo (octopus) was Cole’s appetizer – that he got for free from Alex the bartender. Like I said, Cole’s cheap, he’s not paying anything extra for anything. He’s quite literally the polar opposite of me, I spend money like a millionaire reality television star.
This was Blue Crab Spaghetti and it was phenomenal! Whereas a little rice goes a long way for me, I could eat pasta all the time. I love seafood and the crab in the spaghetti was so succulent and savory, I just loved it.
Ippoglosso, or pan-seared halibut, was outstanding! Fresh and fanciful and incredibly full of flavor!
I failed to take a photo of the dessert menu, but this was a lavender cheesecake with pistachio ice cream and white chocolate, all things I loved and let me tell you what, they all worked so well together. One of the finest desserts I’ve ever had.
Like I kept saying, only two photos taken of me all day, this being the second. It was an off day for me, but should’ve been a better one for Cole in that regard.
The New York City Library. It was so cute and I wish I had more time to go inside. I absolutely LOVE libraries!
My brother requested I go get a photo with the stone lion’s, but it was all fenced off, so that wasn’t in the cards. Cole said it isn’t like this during the day, so next time I’ll make a point to stop here while the sun is awake.
Bryant Park just behind the library was adorable and I loved it. They had all these lil’ chess sets and being an avid fan of chess, I would have loved to come play a game here.
These light posts were too cute with their green tops.
I really loved the subway system. I just found it cute and enchanting and quite easy to navigate. 10/10. Highly recommend.
I often found myself feeling like Blair Waldorf in that one episode of “Gossip Girl” where she’s trying to avoid Chuck and doesn’t want to meet him atop the Empire State Building, but everywhere she goes that day she can see it. I just kept replaying that episode in my mind and felt like a real Upper East Sider each time I thought about it. One thing is for certain, this trip definitely moved Gossip Girl to the top of my playlist. It won’t be long before I start that spectacular series again.

As always, THANK YOU so much for viewing! I appreciate you greatly! Please feel free to leave me a comment below as I LOVE reading and responding to them! Day Five arrives soon and it will look a little different. It’s when I went to the 9/11 Memorial, so there’ll be less pictures and more words, but until then, I wish you all, all the best!
