On the morning of this day we left Mackinac Island to head for Detroit. A perfectly targeted Instagram ad provided us with a scenic detour that as you’ll soon see, really helped enhance the overall awesomeness of this day. So come along and take a look at this fun-filled road trip day from the upper peninsula down to the Motor City!
Some these targeted ads really get me, let me tell you what and the one for the Boyne Valley Mountain Resort Skybridge was no exception! I was so thankful for that ad though as it provided us with the most scenic experience!
After our chairlift up top we came to this quaint clearing with a food truck, plenty of sitting space, yard games, and just a nice sense of community. The restrooms were quite nice up here as well!
Not going to lie, the bridge was a little scary. It wobbled quite a lot in certain parts, oddly not as much in others, and overall, you were just UP there! At the highest point you were 118 feet from the valley floor!
The views were second to none, but it did feel like it took a long while to make the journey across. Also, in the center, there was a glass floor. None of us were overly fond of that, but the uninterrupted view below was genuinely captivating.
Melissa was scared shitless and hung onto the rail for support the entire time. I had my phone out taking pictures on three occasions – I stopped walking each time – but it made me nervous. It was windy up there and with the bridge wobbling some and people passing by, I didn’t want to lose my phone to the valley, so I really had to limit my photography.
Once you reached the end, you got to turn around and do it all over again! Overall, I definitely enjoyed the experience as it offered an extreme differentiation to our trip. Was it nerve-racking? Absolutely, but in all the best ways!
LISTEN UP! This pork dish from The Apparatus Room was honestly THE BEST pork dish I’d EVER had in my life! I love peppers, I love corn, I love peaches, I love pork, it was the perfect medley of flavor and literally had me CRAVING it the entire rest of the trip! Looking at this now has me licking my lips and blowing kisses at my MacBook screen. It truly was simply the best. 10/10! HIGHLY Recommend!
A view of downtown Detroit from our parking garage.
Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun Farewell Tour” Detroit stop was in their Fox Theatre! As you’ll soon see, it looks strikingly similar to St. Louis’ Fabulous Fox!
Of course knowing that this Fox and ours were sister structures we were anxious to notice all the details and differences. The first we discovered was their theatre was noticeably smaller in every which way, but no place was more apparent than in the entry hall. It was quite packed in this space, but it was of course a sold out show.
Lu Kala opened for Cyndi and while none of us had ever heard of her before this, we all quite enjoyed her set up fast and fun songs.
Their ceiling was nearly identical, but their color scheme was a bit brighter.
While waiting for Cyndi to take stage she had all these videos of her lyrics up and my goodness is she a talented songwriter.
Cyndi kicked off the night with a BANG! Confetti went everywhere when she stepped on stage for the first time to perform the opening number, “She Bop.” What a jam! Everyone in the audience loved that song as we were all singing with Cyndi in unison!
Cyndi Lauper is 71 years old, but you’d never know it. She was up there movin’ and groovin’ like she was 31 all over again. Her dancing brought so many smiles to our faces.
I was completely unprepared for when she came out from the side door right near us to perform, “Iko Iko.” This was the best shot I could muster, but literally at one point, she was probably twelve feet away from me. I’m sure my face expressed my happiness in the moment.
It was a rip-roaring show all in all that boasted nearly all her hits and then some, but the final song of the night was her signature one, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” Everyone was singing and dancing along to this anthem! It was such a feel good moment and one of the best endings I’ve ever seen to a concert. The energy was alive and everyone was so full of life.
Cyndi talked a whole lot all through the night, which I love. She’s incredibly political, which I also love. It was honestly a dream fulfilled getting to see this living legend in concert and I’m so thankful she was in Detroit the same time we were!
Lu Kala was taking pictures with fans and we were about six feet from her when we were in line for the merchandise booth! That was a super neat moment. People were loving their interactions with her. She seemed great!
Right across the street from the Fox was Comerica Park, where the Detroit Tigers play baseball. It was a super cute baseball stadium and really enhanced the overall aesthetic of downtown Detroit. Let me make it perfectly clear, this city exceeded ALL of our expectations! We loved it! Can’t even wait to show you all more in the posts ahead!
As always, THANK YOU for viewing! Feel free to leave a comment below as I love reading and responding to them! I’ll return in two short days with our next day in Detroit, so until then, I wish you all, all the best!
