Walt Disney World Day Five: ICON Park & Celebration, Florida

While I opted to maintain the same title as the four previous installments as to not stray from the formula, this title is actually quite misleading in that I really didn’t spend any time at all in Walt Disney World on Day Five. Instead, I had the most wondrous day with two of my nearest and dearest friends from my California years.

As you may recall, in August of 2020 I visited Jacksonville, Florida to see my friend Nancy, who in order to differentiate from the Original Nancy (who in fact was in Disney with us), I used to call California Nancy as that’s where we both lived and worked together back in the day. Now with California Nancy’s move to Jacksonville, she’s known as Florida Nancy. Make sense? Okay, awesome.

Florida Nancy drove over two hours from Jacksonville to pick me up at my resort and together we went and had THE BEST day in Orlando. After a quick Google search of things to do, I found ICON Park. This entertainment area had something for everyone including an aquarium, some ridiculously tall swings, a museum of illusions, a giant ferris wheel, and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum amongst others. Florida Nancy and I opted to do the latter two because as you’ll all remember from California Day Two, I LOVE a good wax museum! Plus, Melissa and I just watched the horror classic, House of Wax, so going there was a given and the jumbo ferris wheel was just an added bonus.

I thought these lil’ luggage carts or whatever they were parked outside our resort’s main entrance were just adorable.
Everything about our resort was real cute.
Nancy & I about to set sail at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum of Orlando!
I don’t even remember who this was supposed to be…
Abraham Lincoln
Uncle Sam
Neil Armstrong
Barack Obama
Fuck this asshole. Trump is a domestic terrorist and deserves to spend his final years rotting in prison for inciting the violence of January 6, amongst a multitude of other transgressions.
Walt Disney
Albert Einstein
Melissa’s all-time favorite artist, Andy Warhol.
THE BEST professional athlete to have ever lived, David Beckham.
Muhammad Ali
Dan Marino
Tiger Woods
“Livin’ La Vida Loca!”
“Baby! Baby! Baby! Oooh!”
“Bitch better have my money!”
Jimmy Fallon
Oprah
Sofia Vergara
Tom “David S. Pumpkins” Hanks
Wonder Woman
Superman
Shrek & Fiona
Melissa would’ve LOVED this Madame Tussaud’s! They had this interactive Shawn Mendes exhibit and EVERYONE knows he’s her all-time favorite! She loves him.
Steven Spielberg
Samuel L. Jackson

I’m terrified of heights, but remaining in the center of the cabin was alright for me. I managed.

These two are THE BEST!

Our time in Walt Disney World in and of itself would have made for the perfect vacation, but adding in seeing two of my absolute favorite people on this entire planet really made it that much more special and amazing. I feel very blessed to have maintained contact with people from all points and places in my life and Nancy and Edward are perfect examples of that blessing.

Nancy and I worked together for a relatively brief period of time at the same Enterprise branch in Temecula, California before I got transferred to another location, but even though our time working together was literally like two months, we’ve maintained our friendship for more than five years now. Nancy is one of the funniest and most genuine people I’ve ever known and I couldn’t be more thankful to be her friend. We always have THE BEST time together no matter what we’re doing and her views on the world are so insightful and appreciated that I am eternally grateful for her wit and wisdom. She really is simply the best.

Before leaving Macy’s and heading to Enterprise, I worked for thirteen months alongside Edward at the Macy’s store in Escondido, California. In an often dark and dim work environment, Edward was a consistent and constant beam of bright shining light. His positive attitude and willingness to help anyone in anyway made my time there infinitely better. When Melissa, Original Nancy, and I went down to Walt Disney World in August of 2017 Edward took us to the most amazing dinner and his hospitality was second to none then and this time around was certainly no exception. He might literally be the kindest person I’ve ever known and he is always uplifting everyone’s spirit. It’s truly impossible to feel anything but good vibes when you’re in his dynamic presence. Getting to spend time with his brother, Elmer, who took our photos above, as well as meeting his sister Elizabeth was really icing on the cake of an already extraordinary evening. It was a night Florida Nancy and I will NEVER forget because we had the perfect hosts in Edward and Elmer and I am eternally grateful for the multitude of memories we all made together.
